A great article provided by Forbes and in CareerBuilder
discusses the biggest personal attributes that keep people from getting a promotion: Piercings: 37% Bad Breath: 34% Visible Tattoo: 31% Wrinkled Clothes: 31% Messy Hair: 29% This is interesting, because nearly half of 26-40 year-olds and 36% of 18-25-year-olds have tattoos. 22% of 26-40-year-olds and 30% of 18-25 year-olds have at least one body piercing, according to the Pew Research Center. Eventually, many people with tattoos spend big money to go through a painful procedure to remove the tattoos. One person noted that these things probably won't get you fired, but they keep you from getting hired or promoted. At the same time, as etiquette trainers, we can certainly let our students know about proper hygiene so that our students don't come to work or interviews with bad breath, messy hair, or wrinkled clothing!
